It was a close competition between Christ Church and Hale School at the recent Four Schools tournament, resulting in a seventh consecutive victory for the School’s Chess community.

Hosted at Hale School, Christ Church won the tournament by the narrowest of margins following a near defeat by rivals Hale School during the final round.

“Every member of our team contributed to the important wins and draws at vital times throughout the tournament, it was a real team effort,” says Teacher in Charge of Chess, Mr Richard Spence.

“Special mention goes to our Year 11 Team Captain Eric Pan who was the only player undefeated.”

“Despite the great result, the team is under no illusions that they will have to work hard between now and the PSA tournament if they are to retain the title.”

In other related news, the Junior tournament was recently won for the second time by Lucas Hogan (Year 9) with Emil Ong the runner up. Eric Pan also won the Open tournament with Rahal Wijesuriya as runner up.

Christ Church Grammar School’s Chess Club takes place at lunch time each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in Room M10. All boys regardless of ability are welcome to come along and have a game.
