It was an eventful day at Champion Lakes last Saturday as the School’s rowers celebrated successes, including our First VIII who took out the 2019 Garth Wynne Cup.

“Well done to our First VIII who had another convincing win in a time of 5:52, eight seconds ahead of their closest rival,” says Teacher in Charge of Rowing, Justin Forbes.

“The boys are well aware that nothing is gifted in this sport and that they need to be at their absolute best.”

“Our rowers performed well on the day and the Don Fraser Club provided outstanding hospitality which, combined with light winds, made for an exceptional regatta.”

“All four of our senior eights celebrated wins and remain undefeated over 2000m this rowing season.”

“In what was a close contested race, our Second VIII finished in 1st place ahead of a fast finishing Trinity College.”

“Our Third VIII celebrated their third win in a row, adding to a successful start to the regatta season and Fourth VIII were convincing winners in their respective division also.”

“A great effort by our 9A quad who finished 3rd.”

“Christ Church are currently the warm favourites ahead of this year’s Head of the River and we look forward to having many members of the Christ Church community there to cheer on our rowers as they give their mighty all.”

The Head of the River regatta will be held at Champion Lakes on Saturday 23 March.
