Last week our Years 3 and 4 boys enjoyed a wonderful visit from award-winning children’s author and illustrator, Leigh Hobbs, creator of Old Tom, Mr Chicken, Mr Badger and Horrible Harriet.

Speaking in the Chapel, Leigh explored several of his past titles and led the boys through a series of fun drawing tutorials centred around the much-loved characters of Old Tom and Mr Chicken, the boys’ favourites.

“Leigh had the ability to really engage our boys. He had their attention from the word ‘go’ and the drawings they produced were fantastic. Importantly, Leigh stressed that one’s drawing, though of the same character, will always be different and that is how it should be,” says Teacher Librarian in the Preparatory School, Kate Marshall.

“It was delightful to see the boys visibly relax as the session progressed and concentrate on their own work, rather than comparing themselves to those around them.”

“Apart from being an award-winning Australian author and illustrator, Leigh Hobbs is a fabulous ambassador for children’s literature, reading and libraries.”
