Local author, illustrator and cartoonist James Foley was at Christ Church last week, entertaining and enlightening our Year 3 boys with a fantastic session in the Chapel.

Since illustrating The Last Viking books and My Dead Bunny, James has been developing his own series of graphic novels for middle readers featuring young inventor Sally Tinker. Novels which currently form part of the series include Brobot, Dungzilla and Gastronauts.

“The session involved much fun and laughter and the boys loved it,” said Teacher Librarian in the Preparatory School, Mrs Kate Marshall.

“The boys were totally engaged as James described his work, how he became an author/illustrator and the process of producing a book. His delivery was extremely entertaining and the subjects, for example dung beetles, weird inventions and some bodily functions, had guaranteed boy appeal.”

“James finished the session with a drawing activity. It was tremendous to see all the boys watching carefully and producing some terrific pictures of Sally Tinker’s little brother, Joe.”

“Currently, there are no James Foley books remaining in the library as they have all been borrowed!”

“It’s always a delight to see the enthusiasm visits such as this generate and we thank the School’s Centre for Ethics, whose generosity made this wonderful visit possible.”
