The author of The Guy, the Girl, the Artist and His Ex was a virtual guest at Christ Church this week, thanks to Skype.

Based out of Melbourne, Gabrielle Williams spoke to selected Year 9 students on her book and how she uses structure and point of view when writing.

The session related to the boys’ focus on the narrative technique of point of view as part of the Year 9 library program, and complements the literacy work of our English Department.

“Her novel The Guy, the Girl, the Artist and His Ex is part of our current library collection and has been a popular title with the boys,” says Teacher Librarian, Rebecca Cain.

“The boys were really engaged throughout the Skype and particularly enjoyed Gabrielle reading parts of her novel aloud and explaining the perspective of the different voices. Towards the end the boys asked a range of questions about her inspirations, the writing process and reading. It was a very rewarding experience.”

Gabrielle is also the author of the critically acclaimed Beatle Meets Destiny and The Reluctant Hallelujah and has been described by The Age reviewer Cameron Woodhead as “one of the funniest young adult fiction authors around.”
