Last week, Midnite Youth Theatre Company presented ‘Grimm’ at Subiaco Arts Centre, performed by students Year 7 to 9 from schools around Perth. Those who were fortunate enough to secure a ticket to the popular show, enjoyed a whimsical reimagining of a number of beloved Grimm Brothers fairytales. The young actors enchanted their audience as they brought to life the classic tales, including Little Red Cap, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, in addition to some less well-known but equally entertaining stories, such as Three Snake Leaves and The Youth who left home to find out about the Shivers.

The fairytales highlighted the timeless themes of bravery, kindness, and the triumph of good, but with a dark twist typical of the Grimms tales, that had the audience laughing.

The performances were truly commendable, with the young actors skilfully portraying a diverse range of characters. Whether it was the courage of the protagonists, the cunning of the villains, or the comedic timing of the supporting characters, they delivered stellar performances that captivated the audience from start to finish.

The production’s incredible set design and costumes also helped to transport the audience into a world of enchantment.

Grimm rekindled the magic of fairytales, reminding audiences of the power of storytelling to inspire imagination and courage. The performances by our talented Christ Church students are a testament to the wonderful Drama program here at our school and the opportunities they are afforded through The Midnite Youth Theatre Company.
