Christ Church Grammar School’s new Preparatory School, which opened in 2019, was awarded the overall winner at the recent Learning Environments WA (LEWA) Awards.

The School was also announced as winner of the New Individual Facility over $8M category.

“A core objective of the build was to consolidate and reduce the physical footprint of the Preparatory School which was dispersed across the campus,” said the School’s Project Manager, Mr Christian Coslani.

“The new build unifies all the existing preparatory learning spaces into a single building configured across three levels with general learning areas on the lowest and upper-most levels, separated by a middle plane of administrative and specialist learning spaces.”

“This arrangement allows for the promotion of distinctly different learning environments for different age groups.”

Principal Alan Jones said, “Boys need space in order to learn, develop, explore and be creative. Our unique 100sqm open classrooms were a key design component of the project and a significant pillar in our philosophy of ‘building good men.‘ With amazing teachers and over 5000sqm of innovative learning spaces, we are well positioned to motivate every boy to achieve his best.”

“The design also acknowledges the importance of outside play areas as part of the learning experience for boys.”

“Play based learning is crucial in the early years of development, and research indicates that it is the fastest and most effective way for boys to develop the basic knowledge and skills needed to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.”
