Kindy receives a special visit from St John Ambulance
Published on: 29 October 2026
Recently, the Kindergarten boys enjoyed a special visit from Karen at St John Ambulance. They learnt about the important role paramedics play in our community and how they help people in emergencies.
Throughout the session, the boys developed their vocabulary by learning new words, including paramedic and operator. They closely examined a paramedic’s uniform, noticing the Western Australian badge and reflective panels that help paramedics stay visible and safe. Their observations encouraged curiosity and helped them make connections to the world around them.
The boys discussed when to call an ambulance, which other emergency services could be contacted through 000, and how to make an emergency call. Using a pretend phone, they practised calling 000, building their confidence and understanding of how to seek help. After reading the book 000 Heroes, they learnt the importance of finding an adult quickly and helping care for an injured person until help arrives.
A highlight was exploring a real ambulance! Karen showed the boys the patient bed and some of the equipment paramedics use to care for people.
This meaningful experience supported the boys’ communication skills, critical thinking and understanding of community helpers, while helping them develop the knowledge and confidence to respond safely in an emergency.
