The Christ Church Cadet Unit were deployed to Bindoon recently, where they conducted their Term 3 Field Exercises. The cadets completed a small group navigation exercise (NAVEX), followed by marksmanship at the Irwin Barracks Weapon Training Simulator System (WTSS) facility.

Having learnt the hard way on their last exercise, the cadets understood the importance of building a robust individual shelter with appropriate drainage. They did this successfully and remained dry during atrocious weather. As they bunkered down, the cadets completed navigation revision, compiling individual navigation data sheets for the following days’ NAVEX.

During the field exercise, all cadets took the lead in a navigation leg, building confidence in their planning, equipment and navigation skills. During the NAVEX, cadets participated in a First Aid stand where they took care of casualty, completing casualty evacuation reports (CASEVAC) for Company Headquarters. They also conducted a Close Target Reconnaissance (CTR) of a fishing village.

On the final day, the unit departed to Irwin Barracks to shoot on the WTSS and complete a familiarisation session in a Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicle (PMV) provided by A Squadron, 10th Light Horse.
