Boarding community celebrates National Boarding Week
Published on: 15 May 2025
This week Christ Church is celebrating National Boarding Week, recognising the vital role boarding plays in developing character, independence, and resilience of young men.
This year holds special significance as we celebrate 110 years of boarding at Christ Church. Since 1915, boarding has been a cornerstone of the School, welcoming students from across Western Australia, interstate, and overseas into a warm, supportive, and close-knit residential community.
The week featured a vibrant program of activities that brought boarders, day students, and staff together in celebration.
Highlights included a boarders vs day boys dodgeball match, a thrilling mechanical bull riding competition during the Boarding Open Day, and a sausage sizzle fundraiser that raised an impressive $1,652 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)—a significant organisation for many of our regional families. All donations before Thursday 15 May will be doubled by their matched giving partners. To donate to the RFDS click here.
The celebrations culminate today with the headline event: the much-anticipated boarders vs staff basketball game at lunch, where friendly competition will take centre stage.
Director of Boarding, Todd Harnwell, reflected on the strength and depth of the boarding experience at Christ Church:
“Our 88 boarders are supported by an extended family of staff—including Year Group Coordinators and their families, Housemothers, Health Centre staff, and Residential Assistants. Together, we work tirelessly to ensure all boys feel appreciated as individuals and collectively as boarders in our residential community.”
As we celebrate National Boarding Week, we also acknowledge the generations of boys who have called Walters House home and thank the dedicated staff and families who continue to support this integral part of Christ Church life.
