More than 300 Year 8 fathers, significant friends, boys and staff attended the Year 8 Father/Friend and Son Breakfast in the Refectory last week. The School’s Director of Cricket Mickey Arthur was the guest speaker for the morning.

The guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast organised the Parents’ Auxiliary and served by Year 7 mothers. New President of the Parents’ Auxiliary Samantha Goebel welcomed the gathering and introduced Mickey, who is also renowned as a motivational speaker.

Christ Church’s Director of Cricket is the former coach of the Australian Cricket Team, former coach of the South African Cricket Team and former coach of the Western Warriors. Mickey spoke about his life journey, how he came to be at Christ Church and how happy he was to be back coaching cricket at schoolboy level.

He talked about how the concepts of developing excellence at a national level were the same at school level and the importance of digging deeper in ones self and understanding the general motivational concepts used. He also stressed to the boys how important it is to remain true to yourself and have confidence in your own values.

At the end of his talk there was an opportunity for questions as well as Mickey quizzing the boys and awarding answers with a signed cricket ball.
