Our first group of Year 8 boys have just returned from an amazing five nights spent aboard the STS Leeuwin II which set sail from Monkey Mia on 29 April.

Sailing the calm and pristine waters of Denham Sound, the boys operated the 42m tall ship 24-hours a day and worked as a team to overcome all challenges faced aboard.

“It was very pleasing to see the boys working together as a team to meet and overcome all challenges associated with handling a traditional tall ship. The boys found the experience challenging yet rewarding”, says Marine and Maritime Teacher, Mr Arvi Pocock.

Key highlights of this first voyage for 2017 included seeing dugongs, dolphins, sea snakes, and a massive tiger shark.

The Leeuwin experience continues to be an integral part of our Outdoor Education offering for Year 8 boys which now is in its seventh year. The partnership between Christ Church and the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation provides boys with a six-day adventure where they become amongst the youngest to set sail on the training ship. Christ Church is the only Western Australian school to include sailing as part of its compulsory Outdoor Education program.

Good luck to voyage II which is currently underway.
