The Christ Church surfing team had a ripper of a day on Tuesday 11 August, winning Champion School for Metro Zone 2 at the Sunsmart WA School Surfing Titles.

Tom Giudice (Year 10) and Oliver Stewart (Year 10) won the Junior Shortboard event, while Mitch Yeo (Year 10) and Harry Cranswick (Year 9) were runners up in the Junior Bodyboard event.

“It was the boys’ consistency on the day that won Christ Church the Champion School trophy and I want to congratulate everyone involved,” said Mr Simon Hunn.

“Three out of our four teams were in the finals, an impressive performance given the quality of the 15 or so schools that surfed this zone event.”

Following their success, Tom, Oliver, Mitch and Harry will surf in the State Finals of the WA School Titles on Friday 21 August.

The winning team in each surfing division of the State Finals will be selected to represent WA in the Schools Division of the Australian Junior Surfing Titles on North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, in December.

“It was a great day at the beach – not only was the surfing impressive, the boys’ behaviour and support of each other was a credit to themselves and the School.”
