Christ Church once again performed well in the Schools and Colleges Relays held at Challenge Stadium last Sunday. While the School’s fastest swimmers just missed out on the Pop Agnew Memorial Cup this year, both Preparatory and Senior School boys secured a number of medals and two new JPSSA records.

Christ Church, led by 2013 Swimming Captain Jack Richardson and vice-captains Elijah Anderson and Henry Pennell, finished a close second to swimming rivals Wesley. Teacher-in-Charge of Aquatics Luke Farmer said the annual event, which attracted around 2,000 competitors from more than 40 metropolitan and country schools, was great preparation for the boys leading into the QUADS carnival at Challenge Stadium next week.

Lawrence Mitchell, Jack Richardson, Aiden Walsh, James Hoey, Elijah Anderson and Charlie Moorman swam strongly in the Pop Agnew race, collecting a silver medal in 2.36.48.

The Prep School swimmers won four of their six events as well as two silver medals. Both the Year 6 Freestyle and Year 6 Medley teams won gold, setting new JPSSA records on the way.

The next event for the Senior swimming team is the QUADS Carnival on Thursday 7 March, at Challenge Stadium, from 6.00pm. Next week, the Prep swim team will try to retain its crown in the JPSSA Inter-School Swimming Carnival, also at Challenge, from 12noon to 3.00pm.
