Year 11 Christ Church student Luka Brown has been selected in the All Australian Tennis team following tough competition in the 2019 Pizzey Cup.

The young tennis player was among 115 secondary school students from across the nation to compete at the prestigious event held in Adelaide, which doubles as the 2019 School Sport Australia Tennis Championships.

Teams consisting of eight players competed against other states at least once, with the final results determining selection of the All Australian side. A singles event known as the Australia Cup also ran alongside the Pizzey Cup, both events attracting Australian Ranking points.

“Halfway through the week I was undefeated in the team and the individual categories, so knew I had a chance of making the All Australian team due to the points I picked up,” commented Luka.

“When my name was read out I was so happy and to cap it off, my team mate Ethan Cook also made the team along with another girl Lexie Weir who I grew up training with.”

“This was my second year competing in the Pizzey Cup and I was extremely pleased to have captained the WA boys’ team.”

“I’ve also been involved with Christ Church’s Firsts Tennis team since Year 8 and can proudly say that we remain undefeated. We have an exceptionally talented young team and a coach who has an order of Australia, which us as the players are very proud of.”

Director of Sport, Mr Anthony Lynch said, “Luka has been an integral member of the School’s Firsts Tennis team since 2016 and has been a significant contributor to the team, ensuring the Corr Cup has remained at Queenslea Drive for the last four years.”

“We wish him every success as he trains alongside the Australian Open in Melbourne in January 2020.”
