Sports facilities at Christ Church have been significantly enhanced with the completion of state of the art cricket nets, which also double as a multi-purpose, indoor-style pitch for hockey and soccer.

The upgrade to the School’s cricket training facility, which is also used by the Mickey Arthur Cricket Academy that operates out of Christ Church, was brought forward due to storm damage last October.

The result is a highly versatile, steel web design construction with concertina netting for both synthetic and turf wickets use. In addition, the facility is designed to provide a versatile play space featuring retractable nets and removable web guide wires so the space can be used for other sports including indoor hockey and soccer.

Facilities and Project Manager Christian Coslani, who co-ordinated and managed the project, envisaged the design to provide a multi-purpose play space unlike the conventional outdoor cricket nets designs out on the market.

Working closely with the School’s engineers Airey Taylor engineering consultants, Director of Sport Anthony Lynch and Grounds Manager Trevor Scott, Mr Coslani said it was great to see the facility completed and in use. “Overall, it is a great outcome, adding a new dynamic to mixed use to teaching spaces,” Mr Coslani said.

Headmaster Garth Wynne described the facility as a boon for Christ Church cricket, the Mickey Arthur Cricket Academy and all sports at the School. “This bespoke construction is a reflection of the creativity, ingenuity and hard work of Chris and will serve the needs of the School for many years.”
