On Saturday evening, the Walters Residential Community came together to celebrate 110 years of boarding at Christ Church Grammar School.

Since 1915, boarding has been a cornerstone of the School, welcoming students from Western Australia, interstate, and overseas into a close-knit and supportive environment. Over the decades, generations of boarders have called Walters House home, forged lasting friendships and grown through invaluable life experiences.

The evening brought together current boarding families, staff, old boy boarders, and former staff to celebrate the rich history and enduring spirit of boarding life. Director of Boarding Todd Harnwell described the occasion as “a fitting recognition of this incredible milestone” and expressed appreciation for the strong turnout of current and past members of the boarding community.

A standout moment of the evening was a speech by old boy Martin Booth (’59), who reflected on his own experiences as a boarder. While acknowledging how much has changed, he reminded guests that the heart of the Christ Church boarding experience, its values, camaraderie, and care, remains constant.

The night concluded with a relaxed gathering in Sandover Dining Hall, where guests enjoyed food, drinks, and an ice cream van – a crowd favourite.

This celebration was a wonderful tribute to 110 years of tradition, connection, and growth through boarding at Christ Church. We also extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated staff and families who continue to support this integral part of school life and help shape the boarding experience for future generations.
