Ten of our elite soloists took to the Hadley Hall stage last Saturday as part of Soli ’17, impressing over 200 guests with an outstanding afternoon of music ranging from Classical through to Jazz and Contemporary genres.

Accompanied by Christ Church music students from Years 7 to 12, the Year 12 soloists presented a line-up of musical classics such as Paul Simon’s Bridge over Troubled Water, George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 in b minor and jazz classics Basin Street Blues and My Kind of Girl.

“The 10 soloists all performed with aplomb, including some stand out contributions from Gary Song (Saint-Saens), Thomas Sisson (Chaminade), Gus McKenzie (Led Zeppelin), James Chapman (Basin Street Blues) and Isaiah Quintana (Pirates of the Caribbean),” said Director of Music, Mr Kevin Gillam.

“These concerts are also an invaluable opportunity for younger students to learn the art of being part of accompanying orchestras and backing bands.”

The Music Department wishes to thank all of the conductors, stage and technical support, music librarianship and front of house staff for their contributions with this year’s concert.
