Year 10 Art students recently embarked on a virtual excursion to the National Portrait Gallery of Australia in Canberra where they received a lesson on the history of Australian portraiture.

Meredith Hughes, principal educator at the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, guided over 20 enthusiastic boys through an interactive lesson about some of Australia’s most iconic portraits, artists and subjects. At one point Ms Hughes encouraged the boys to test their own artistic skills and try their hand at portraiture.

“The boys really enjoyed the experience to immerse themselves in the culture of Australian art and learn about its history, Ms Hughes’ expertise in the field was infectious and the boys were very impressed” said Art Teacher Mr Jean-Marc Rivalland.
