  • Preparing for Term 3
  • House competitions
  • Student presentation and uniform guidelines

A long – and COVID-affected – term comes to an end tomorrow and the disruption of extended absences for boys and staff are hopefully well behind us. Most of us are optimistic that we will return to a full program of School events in Term 3, and we are looking forward to being on the other side of the pandemic.

Last week we concluded the House Public Speaking and Chess competitions with Craigie and Hill topping the leaderboard in these competitions. In addition, the ICT Department was host to boys involved in a one-off eSports competition. It is exciting that the House Teams Carnival will go ahead this afternoon and there was a real buzz of excitement around the Chapel this morning with the boys wearing their House colours.

As the term has proceeded there has been reflection in the community about the standards of Christ Church student presentation. I want to take this opportunity to thank you as parents for your support of our expectations around presentation standards. We have worked consistently to improve the respect of presentation standards with the boys, but still feel we have a way to go. Some boys don’t always reflect an acceptable standard of presentation and unfortunately this is how we are judged. Again, I seek your support as we ensure that our boys are all well-groomed and respecting our expectations for the start of Term 3. I will be sending a specific email to the boys reinforcing the School’s presentation standards later today to ensure they ready for next term. The Student Presentation and Uniforms guidelines can be found here.

As we conclude the semester, it is always important to reflect on what has been achieved. To that end, I encourage all families to take the time and review student reports when they arrive in the first week of the holidays. The report outcomes should be considered in light of the goals set earlier in the year, with adjustments and new plans put in place for Semester 2. Review of student reports will be a focus for boys with tutors in Week 1 of Term 3, along with review of goals and adjustments where necessary.

I wish all families a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday period.
