It has been a busy week, with our Year 11 and 12 boys sitting their exams. All of the students have been incredibly respectful and understanding observing the ‘stay quiet’ signs and keeping clear of the exam classrooms.
Environmental sustainability is high on the School’s agenda and this year the Environmental Committee, comprised of boys from Years 10 to 12, are driving some significant changes. Commencing next Tuesday, 4 June we will begin our journey to becoming a campus focused on eliminating plastic, and where elimination isn’t possible, introducing a bio-degradable alternative. For more details on this initiative go here.
The flu season has officially started and as part of our Staff Health and Wellbeing Program more than 160 staff have had the flu needle. Children are well known to be “Super Spreaders” and our Health Centre staff can confirm this by the large number of sick children coming through the door. Health Centre staff are urging parents to assist with preventing the spread of influenza in our community by keeping unwell children at home and not allowing them to return until they are completely well. If you are a parent of a Senior School student who has a test or assessment – the boys should not come to school and suitable arrangements will be made by staff to ensure the boys are not disadvantaged. See here for more details.
We are proud of our campus, culture and community and often welcome educators form various locations around the globe to see the amazing things we are doing first hand. Yesterday we met with a team of people from the Learning Environments Australasia Conference. They are in Perth for an annual conference part of which is to visit leading schools and universities. The team were incredibly impressed with our campus and teaching staff and commented on the amazing culture that was obvious in all interactions with teachers, boys and support staff.
Since the beginning of the year, we have also welcomed visitors to tour the Preparatory School. One such group are the jurors who will decide the winner in the Education category of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), WA Chapter Awards to be held in June. The Preparatory School, designed by the With Architecture Studio, is shortlisted and will be evaluated against eleven other buildings including the Yanchep Secondary College, Hale Junior School, Perth College Excelsior House and UWA’s IQX. We recently created a fly through of the Prep School for prospective parents which you can see here.
Mid-term break comes just at the right time. As I work my way around the campus I can sense from my interactions with the boys that they are ready for the break. I hope everyone has the chance to enjoy the long weekend and spend time with loved ones.
