  • Local Anthropologist visit
  • PSA competitions
  • Year 10 Mother/Friend and Son Breakfast

I trust that all our families were able to enjoy the long weekend and had the opportunity to connect and recharge. Last week, I had the pleasure of inviting local resident Beatrice Jones to the School to celebrate her 99th birthday. Beatrice was joined by students from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program, along with Sam Wallace, the Program Coordinator, and Lia de Sousa, Head of Learning Resources. As an avid anthropologist, Beatrice thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the students and staff, discussing the local landscape and its rich history. She generously donated a book titled From The Bukarikara: The Lore of the Southwest Kimberley through the Art of Butcher Joe Nangan by Kim Akerman to the Senior School Library, adding to our expanding collection of Indigenous literature.

We have enjoyed an excellent winter sports season, with the School securing an impressive four out of six cups. Building on this success, the PSA Golf and Surfing competitions were held last week. Our golfers achieved fifth place, and our surfers and bodyboarders earned a commendable second place. Our Theatre Sports Team illustrated our strong affinity to performance by again bring home the PSA Theatre Sports trophy. We now look forward to the PSA Chess competition, where our team will be aiming to secure the School’s 15th consecutive title.

Last week, our Year 12 prefects visited St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls to compete in the annual Prefect Netball match. This event is always a highlight of the School calendar, with students swapping school uniforms for the occasion. As a boys school, it is important that we create opportunities for our students to mix and socialise with students from local girls’ schools.

This morning, we welcomed our Year 10 students and their Mothers/Friends for breakfast in the Refectory. This event is always a wonderful opportunity for students to bond with their Mothers/Friends and enjoy a shared meal. Our School Psychologist, Kate Atkinson, addressed the attendees, highlighting the integral role she plays in supporting the health and wellbeing of our students. You can read more about the event and and view photos here.

Next week, we eagerly anticipate Soli ’24, a culminating performance for our Year 12 soloists. Seventeen musicians will take to the stage, performing a selection of classical, jazz, and contemporary favourites. Tickets are currently on sale here, and I encourage everyone who is available to attend what promises to be a wonderful evening.
