Numeracy and mathematical skills are essential in the home for young boys as they help develop problem-solving abilities, logical thinking, and confidence with numbers from an early age. Everyday activities such as counting toys, measuring ingredients while cooking, recognising shapes, or handling money provide natural and engaging ways for boys to build these skills. Encouraging numeracy at home supports school learning and helps boys see the real-world relevance of mathematics, making it more meaningful and enjoyable. Strong mathematical foundations also improve critical thinking and decision-making, setting your sons up for success in education and daily life.

In the Preparatory School, we are committed to providing our students with rich mathematical opportunities. As a staff, engaging in professional learning to ensure best practice in the classroom, coordinating a range of mathematical competitions for students to participate in, offering mathematical co-curricular clubs and providing rich learning experiences for our students assists in developing and supporting our rich mathematical culture.

On Tuesday, we sent three teams of students to represent Christ Church at the Have Sum Fun Maths Competition held at Nedlands Primary School. It was an incredibly enjoyable day for the boys, filled with engaging challenges and teamwork. The Have Sum Fun Competition is an exciting mathematics initiative that uses a quiz-night format, where teams of six students race against the clock to solve four intense rounds of eight challenging problems. Christ Church placed 1st and 3rd overall in a field of 36 teams. The students had the opportunity to listen to two pilots afterwards, who spoke of the importance of mathematics in their profession. Well done to our boys for a terrific effort.

Tomorrow, our Year 4 boys will head to Kooringal for their first experience with the Outdoor Education Program. This exciting opportunity allows the boys to explore our outdoor education facility, engage with the natural environment, and bond with each other while having a great time. The program focuses on developing collaboration skills, responsibility, leadership and care for the environment. Beginning in Year 4, the program culminates in the Venture experience in Year 10. We are confident the boys will have an unforgettable day.

Please read Year Group Notices regarding potential traffic delays tomorrow morning.
