- Boys embark on STS Leeuwin II
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the latest Drama production Stories from Suburban Road. The play was story telling at its best, a real Australian classic. Congratulations to the talented cast and crew who brought the book to life. If you haven’t yet bought tickets to the Midnite Youth Theatre Company production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, I recommend that you do soon as there are not many tickets left and the production, at the Heath Ledger Theatre, will be exceptional.
On Thursday morning at our Year 9 breakfast, mothers and sons heard from old boy Tommaso D’Orsogna, who spoke from the heart on finding oneself, determining what it is that you value, that success is relative and importantly, that challenges are the catalyst for change. We are so lucky to have such a wide range of talented old boys willing to stay connected to the School and share their experiences at various events.
A special mention to all our boys who have participated in the STS Leeuwin II sailing to date, and to those who soon will be making the trip north to the pristine waters of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. I was reflecting on this aspect of our education and the fact that it is compulsory. Leeuwin is an amazing adventure and opportunity, and together with Kooringal and Venture our Outdoor Education program is designed to take Christ Church boys out of their comfort zones. Staying within their comfort zone creates psychological barriers that can lead to real limitations in life. We know that psychological traits aren’t as readily passed down between generations as physical traits, leaving more room for development when it comes to those mental faculties. Our boys are extremely lucky to have these experiences as part of their education.
