Our Year 11 cohort visited St George’s College last week as part of Ad Astra Day, an annual event providing boys with an opportunity to gain inspiration and guidance from a line-up of speakers. Delivered by the School’s teachers, sessions included:

  •  Career pathways after school
  •  Getting the best out of your brain
  •  Effective research and organisation
  •  Mathematics
  •  Languages

The name Ad Astra is derived from the Latin meaning ‘towards stars’ or ‘towards excellence’. Throughout the day boys were able to select sessions they wanted to attend.

This year’s keynote speaker was former Christ Church Captain of School, Yannick Spencer (2005) who spoke to the boys about keeping things in perspective, maintaining flexibility, looking out for your friends, and accepting support. Yannick is currently a consultant with Azure Consulting.

Director of Studies, Margaret Brophy said, “The boys certainly gain a lot from Ad Astra, as it provides them with a fantastic opportunity to learn from teachers with whom they otherwise might not get to engage regularly. It is also important that we provide them with strong guidance and support at the start of Year 11.”
