Our First XVIII Football players wore their indigenous jumpers with pride on Saturday as they ran onto the field for the annual PSA Indigenous Round of Football against Hale.

The round, which recognises and celebrates Indigenous players, people and culture commenced with a Welcome to Country and didgeridoo performance from Olman Walley, Owner and Director of Boorloo Aboriginal Cultural Experiences.

Following an inspirational start, the siren sounded, the ball was bounced and it was game on.

The First XVIII were a little slow to get going against Hale but started to use the ball better as the first quarter went on. At the end of the quarter Christ Church had kicked two goals. Hale started to get on top in the 2nd quarter as CCGS missed a few opportunities to hit the scoreboard. The tackling pressure was a highlight of the first half. Unfortunately the boys began to lose their composure in the second half and turned the ball over too often, allowing Hale to counter attack and score some easy goals. At the final buzzer the score was Hale 10.8 – 68 to CCGS 4.8 – 32.

After the game Teacher in Charge of Football, Mr Samuel Wallace said, “The team are positive that we can improve in time for next week’s game.”

The final score was Hale 10.8 – 68 to CCGS 4.8 – 32.

Special thanks to Jonah Brooks (Year 11) and Tyrell Stewart (Year 12) who were instrumental in developing this year’s guernsey design and spoke to the School during Assembly on Thursday on the meaning behind each of the design elements.
