Languages Week sparks cultural excitement across campus
Published on: 19 June 2025
Languages Week has brought a vibrant buzz around campus this week, with students participating in an array of multicultural activities. The annual event aims to highlight the lifelong benefits of learning a language while honouring the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that enriches our school community.
Some of the many activities on offer have included:
- Chinese spring roll making
- Kung Fu workshop
- Tao Quan (Chinese hoop looping)
- French fencing workshop
- Karate workshop
- Chinese long rope skipping
- Crêpe making
- ‘Teach the Teacher’ sessions in Japanese, Chinese, and French
- Blind French cheese tasting
Marcus Sharp, Head of Languages, reflected on the significance of the week:
“Just as we warmly welcome students from a wide range of cultures and languages into the Christ Church community, we also value socio-linguistic diversity within our academic program.”
He added, “Languages Week provides students with opportunities to explore new cultures in meaningful, hands-on ways.”
The spirit of Languages Week will carry into next term, as students from Christ Church and Methodist Ladies’ College come together for the annual Languages Quiz – a lively and engaging event that celebrates the richness of languages and cultures from around the globe.
