The Preparatory School is celebrating Access Asia Week – an event that exposes boys to the diversity of Asian cultures around the world and within the Christ Church community.

Co-ordinated by Chinese Language Teacher Li Liu and Library Teacher Maggie Westbrook, boys in the Preparatory School participated in numerous authentic experiences that promoted and celebrated Asian cultures.

Activities on the calendar this week include:

  • Chinese ink painting
  • Calligraphy
  • Origami
  • Mahjong
  • Tibetan prayer flags
  • Malaysia LEGOLAND challenge
  • Classical and Bollywood Indian dance
  • Guest speakers

The boys were also fortunate enough to have guest speakers present throughout the week, including Rashmi Watel who conducted a session on cultural awareness and Sam Lim MP. Mr Lim spoke about the benefits of learning another language with reference to his multilingual upbringing in Malaysia and how the multilingual abilities of his own children have had a similarly positive influence on their careers.

“The purpose of Access Asia Week is to broaden students’ knowledge and understanding of Asian societies, cultures, beliefs and environment and the connections of people of Asia, Australia and the rest of the world,” said Li Liu.
