This week children’s author and illustrator James Foley delighted our Year 2 students with stories of his writing and drawing journey thanks to a competition run by Fremantle Press.

James is the author and illustrator of In the Lion, Brobot, Dungzilla and Gastronauts as well as the illustrator of The Last Viking, The Last Viking Returns, My Dead Bunny, Total Quack Up and Toffle Towers.

James showed the boys how a book is created, from his earliest attempts as a primary school student, to his most recent book which has yet been published. James then surprised the boys with a secret reading of his latest book, making them among the first audience to have seen and heard the story.

As part of the visit, all boys were treated to a drawing exhibition and were taught how to draw James’ zombie bunny character.

“They all did a really good job and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the whole presentation,” said Preparatory School Teacher Librarian, Kate Marshall.

“His books are now in high demand!”

“The enthusiasm generated by an author visit is palpable and it is fantastic to see how eager the boys become to borrow the author’s books.”

“Our thanks goes to both James and Fremantle Press for such a wonderful experience.”
