Last week the Preparatory School boys celebrated Book Week and the atmosphere in the Prep School was electric as the boys participated in a range of exciting and fun activities.

The theme for Book Week this year was ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’ which inspired the boys to create a their own fantastical artwork, costumes and stories.

Throughout the week the Prep Library hosted a series of activities for the boys designed to inspire their creativity and let their imaginations run wild, such as creating monster bookmarks and building their own Curious Creatures out of recycled materials.

They also set up an interactive ‘Story Walk’ around the Prep Oval, in which pages of a picture book were placed around the oval. The boys were then tasked with walking from page to page and carefully reading them to uncover the story.

The week concluded with the Annual Book Week Parade in which the boys dressed up as characters from their favourite books and paraded their costumes in front of the whole Prep School assembly.

Teacher Librarian Sophie Smith said of the week’s activities “Book Week is an amazing opportunity for our boys to engage with reading and books in a fun and exciting way. It is a week to celebrate Australian authors and illustrators.”
