On Wednesday, the Year 3 and 4 boys spent time appreciating the elegance and power of mathematical thinking during their ‘World of Mathematics’ incursion.

Throughout the day, the classes completed 17 activities in small teams. They had a fabulous time working through a variety of open-ended problems and completed their tasks with a newfound enthusiasm for mathematics.

“As teachers, we often promote mathematics for its importance and usefulness. Many of the most innovative jobs require a significant amount of mathematics, from engineering to software development, science and commerce,” said Sarah Stone, Year 3 and 4 Co-ordinator.

“We are also interested in the many important skills the boys learn while studying mathematics, from reasoning and logical thinking to writing precise and clear arguments.”
