From passion to publication: Year 6 student writes historical novel
Published on: 5 June 2025
At just 11 years old, Eason Yi (Year 6) has achieved something extraordinary: he has written and published a 27,000-word historical novel titled Iron Frosted Snow: An Officer’s Journal. Set during the Battle of Stalingrad, the story is told through the diary of a military officer, capturing the human experience of war.
Over nearly two years, Eason independently researched both World War I and World War II, exploring a wide range of sources – from books and documentaries to historical films. To enhance the authenticity of his writing, he even taught himself German using Duolingo.
Published in collaboration with the U.S.-based nonprofit Bookmark League, Eason has pledged to donate all proceeds from his book to No Kid Hungry, an organisation focused on fighting child hunger. Through his writing, he hopes to make a meaningful and positive impact.
Iron Frosted Snow: An Officer’s Journal is now available on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback formats, and can also be found in our Preparatory School library.
