The annual IPSHA Chess Day, hosted by Kingsway Christian College, followed a different format this year. While there was no overall school winner, Christ Church’s Preparatory School Chess Team was one of the top performing schools on the day.

Prep School Chess Club Co-ordinators Holly Miller, who runs the after-school club with Didi Caddy, said eight boys represented the School at the event. More than 100 students from 11 schools across the metropolitan area took part in the fun day of friendly competition.

The team members included Joshua Fry (Year 6), Djimon Jayasundera (Year 6), Kartikeya Kaushal (Year 6), Jamie Low (Year 5), Christopher Manasseh (Year 5), Nicholas Tan (Year 5), Christopher Wallwork (Year 6) and Aran Wheatley (Year 6).

In the lead up to the event, the boys competed in a round-robin competition at Chess Club, held on Tuesday afternoons, to determine which boys would represent the School.

Mrs Miller said the boys performed admirably and represented the School exceptionally well. “Christ Church had a finalist in every division, and a division grand final played between Kartikeya and Jamie. Jamie took the win on the day.”
