This week, our Year 6 students have taken their learning beyond the classroom, embarking on their much anticipated Canberra tour. The experience is already proving to be both educational and memorable.

Students have been exploring some of the nation’s most significant institutions and landmarks. Each day has provided new opportunities to connect classroom learning with real world experiences.

One of the standout moments so far has been the visit to the High Court of Australia, where students observed a live court session and saw the judicial system in action. At the Royal Australian Mint, they discovered how Australian coins are designed and produced, giving many a new appreciation for the change in their pockets.

Students have also explored the National Capital Exhibition, gaining insight into how Canberra was planned and developed. Their understanding of Australia’s culture has been further enriched through visits to the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia and the National Museum of Australia.

A cruise on Lake Burley Griffin has been another highlight, giving students the chance to take in Canberra’s scenery while reflecting on their experiences.

With visits still to come, including Questacon, the Australian Institute of Sport, Parliament House, and the Australian War Memorial, there is plenty more to look forward to.

As the tour continues, students are building their understanding of Australia’s history and government while also creating lasting memories with their peers.
