Year 6 take on adventure and leadership at Kooringal
Published on: 4 March 2026
Our first two Year 6 classes have set off for their three-day Kooringal camp, a highlight of the Outdoor Education program and a special part of their final year in the Preparatory School.
During the Year 6 program, students visit the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, raft and conduct a river health check on the Murray River, navigate bush tracks, and take part in a cultural learning session. A standout is the overnight expedition, where they camp under the stars and cook their own meals.
This year, the program is being led by Lachlan Short, our new Director of the Kooringal Outdoor Education Centre, who is introducing new initiatives and a fresh perspective to the camp experience.
The camp gives students the chance to develop independence, resilience, and teamwork. Packing their own gear, making decisions, and stepping into small leadership roles helps them strengthen friendships, boost confidence, and deepen their connection with the natural world.
Each Kooringal camp builds on the skills learned in previous years, giving students memorable experiences and lasting lessons that grow with them.
