Christ Church is celebrating NAIDOC Week, with students and staff coming together to honour and celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through a range of activities across the School.

A highlight of the week was Wednesday evening’s annual NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition in the Refectory. More than 100 members of the Christ Church community attended the opening to view an incredible collection of original boardshort designs created by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Each design reflects the student’s identity, connection to culture and the people, places and stories that are meaningful to them, offering the school community a deeper insight into the inspiration behind each student’s work.

Year 12 student Kayde Kelly said the project had been a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

“We have put a lot of time and thought into creating these designs, and it means a lot to see them shared with the Christ Church community. The boys are really proud of what we’ve created and hope people get behind it,” he said.

Selected boardshort designs and a commemorative towel are now available to pre-order, with all proceeds supporting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Program and helping create further opportunities for our students. Click here to pre-order

Preparatory students also enjoyed interactive storytelling sessions with Noongar educator Jayden Boundry, exploring stories of Country, creation and native animals.

The week concludes with a powerful dance performance by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the Senior School Assembly, held around the NAIDOC sand mural created earlier in the week. Celebrations will finish with the annual staff versus students basketball game in the Blue Gym.
