Former Australian Test cricket coach Mickey Arthur began his new role as Christ Church’s Director of Cricket last week. The acclaimed former international cricketer and former South African National Cricket Team coach is excited about coaching and his new cricket academy based at Christ Church.

In his first two weeks in the role, Mickey has been putting senior boys through their paces. Each day, after school he has been working with four Years 10 and 11 boys, with First XI potential. Mickey told The West Australian and Post Newspapers last week it was liberating to be just coaching again, rather than managing people.

John Michael (Mickey) Arthur was coach of the South African National Cricket Team (Proteas) from 2005 to 2010 and the Australian National Cricket Team from 2011 to 2013. Born in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Mickey played for both Griqualand West (1986/87 to 1989/90, and 1995/96) and Orange Free State (1990/91 to 1994/95). He was a right-handed batsman.

Mickey, a specialist in motivating teams and individuals, will also use the School’s facilities to run the Mickey Arthur Cricket Academy, open to all ages and abilities. Details on the academy will be published in the School newsletter.
