This week, students embraced curiosity and discovery as the School celebrated Science Week. This year’s theme, “Decoding the Universe: Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language,” encouraged students to delve into the mysteries of the natural world by exploring foundational languages such as mathematics and quantum science.

A dynamic range of activities brought science to life on campus, from interactive lunchtime quizzes and hands-on experiments to escape room decoding challenges that tested students’ logic and teamwork.

Students have also attended sessions with our Astrophysics teachers to learn how to access the ICRAR telescope and take their own dazzling photographs of nebulae, swirling galaxies to submit in a Science Week photo competition.

A highlight for our Year 11 and 12 chemistry students was the Chemistry Breakfast. Joined by peers from Methodist Ladies’ College, students enjoyed a delicious breakfast before attending an engaging presentation by Dr Miles Page, Renewables & Energy Storage Systems Manager at Fortescue. His talk, “Hydrogen for Green Industry,” explored the role of chemistry in advancing renewable energy and creating a more sustainable future.

Younger students were equally engaged through a special visit from the Western Australian Birds of Prey Centre. Preparatory and Year 7 students had the rare opportunity to observe these incredible birds up close, learning about their diets, habitats, and vital roles within our ecosystem. The session also addressed the threats these species face due to human activity, reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation.

Science Week remains a highlight of our school calendar, inspiring students to think bigger, ask questions, and explore how science helps us understand and shape the world around us.
