The Christ Church surfing team took to the waves of Scarborough Beach last week, competing in the PSA Surfing Titles. With a reasonable wave and great beach weather, the team came third behind Scotch and Hale.

With four wins over the past six years the boys were hoping for a more successful weekend of surfing. Mr Simon Hunn, Teacher in Charge of Surfing said although disappointed with their result the boys came away from the competition with great energy, determined to succeed at the WA Schools Titles in August.

“The boys gave it a fair crack in waist to chest high surf. Senior boys Lachlan Yeo and Joshua Greenwood both put in a great effort. Juniors Tomaso Giudice and Oliver Stewart caught some decent waves, as did Mitchell Yeo, Harry Cranswick and Samuel Rifici. It was great to see Griffith Owen put in a stylish performance in the longboard event, given the fast breaking beach break conditions”.

Surfing was introduced as a PSA sport in 1998. Since then, Christ Church has become one of the dominant forces in the event winning the Sirocco Shield six times, including a hat trick from 2010 to 2012. For more information about PSA sports at Christ Church, click here.
