The Christ Church Grammar School Senior Jazz Ensembles put on an incredible performance in front of an enthusiastic sold out crowd at the Ellington Jazz Club on Monday night.

The iconic venue hosted the annual Ellington’s Jazz Night, which was once again a highlight of the School year and a wonderful celebration of jazz music thanks to the Christ Church Music Department.

Throughout the evening the audience were treated to a range of performances in swing, blues, latin and funk genres from the Christ Church Saxophone Quartet, Jazz Band 1, Jazz Band 2 and Jazz Combo ensembles.

MC Stella Kelly kept the energy high and entertained the crowd between sets.

Music Director Paul Millard praised the talent of the boys saying, “The musicians played superbly and the singers were in fine form performing in front of a warm and enthusiastic house of parents, friends and teachers. Each musical item was delivered with energy and precision, the boys should be very proud of themselves.”

The night was a fantastic success thanks to a number of individuals who contributed time and effort in the lead up to this year’s event.

The Music Department would like to thank Kevin Gillam for originally launching this event several years ago and for his ongoing support and promotion, the Music Directors Paul Millard and James Chapman, the wonderful MC for the night Stella Kelly and all other CCGS Music staff present. A special mention goes to the “back room” crew of Cassandra Podbury, Joe Grech, Christine Counsel, Karen Sim, Eboney Yapp and Steffi Hutchinson.
