Last week the School celebrated its 111th birthday.

To mark the occasion, a service of rededication and the lighting of the Torch of Learning was held at Christ Church Claremont. Included in the service, led by Father Peter Boyland, was Captain of School Manus O’Leary and Reverend Nicholas Russell.

Once the torch was lit and the prayers of thanksgiving had concluded, the School Prefects, special guests and official party moved across Queenslea Drive and made their way to the Blue Gym where the entire school cohort was gathered under one roof for a special assembly.

The assembly included some wonderful music Old Boy Chris Webster spoke about his journey at the School and the bonds with his peers that have lasted a lifetime. He reflected on an uncertain start to his professional career which then took a very different and positive direction, allowing him to reinvent himself and find a lot of satisfaction personally and professionally. This was a salient message for the boys about an important phase of their life and that importantly they should do their best whilst in School and then as Chris said, ‘allow the world to open up to you’.

Included in the service was the recognition of the following staff members who have served the School for 15, 20 and 25 years:

15 Years: Mr Geoffrey Alagoda, Mr Kevin Gillam and Mr Andy Greig

20 Years: Mr Alec Barbour, Mr Warren Hall, Mrs Megan Pentony and Mr Trevor Scott

25 Years: Ms Marguerite Crawford
