Last week our Indigenous students were visited by local artist Tyrown Waigana who spoke about his career and work as an artist.

Tyrown Waigana is a multi-disciplinary visual artist who was recently announced as the winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Poster Competition for his work ‘Shape of Land’.

During his visit the students had the opportunity to ask him about his artwork, his influences, his goal of making a living being an artist and how his Indigenous heritage impacts his work. You can see a clip of Tyrown explaining the meaning behind his poster here.

The boys also showed Mr Waigana the mural that they painted for Reconciliation Week this year and explained to him the various details that made it unique to themselves.

The boys engaged Mr Waigana in a lively discussion about art and achieving one’s goals after leaving school.
