The Class of 2013 was celebrated at an ‘Assembly in Honour of Year 12’ this week with guest of honour, Professor Peter Leedman (Class of 1974), offering boys advice for life after Christ Church. Professor Leedman said he wanted the boys to look back in 20 years and think: “I am the man I always wanted to be.”

Professor Leedman, an old boy and father to Nicholas (Year 12) and Sam (2009), is Professor of Medicine at UWA, Deputy Director of the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research and Head of the Laboratory for Cancer Medicine. He is also an endocrinologist and Director of Research at Royal Perth Hospital.

He urged the cohort to bring enthusiasm and passion to all they do, to think big, be ambitious and change the world, and to find inspirational mentors. He also told them to enjoy the unpredictability of the journey, to cherish family and friends and to have fun.

Professor Leedman presented the prizes and awards to the Year 12 leavers, including the Dux of the School, the ‘Rosalie Helen Parry Memorial Prize’, awarded to Liam Kearney. 2013 School Captain Simon Swan gave his final assembly speech to which the audience responded with a great applause.

Bishop Kay Goldsworthy gave the blessing while the Combined CCGS-MLC Choir performed a rendition of Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap. The 2014 School Captain and Prefects were also announced to the Senior School and will be formally inducted at assembly on 24 October.

Following the formalities, the Year 12s raced outside to the Chapel Forecourt for the traditional last Linga. In the evening the graduating boys, their parents and staff attended the Year 12 Valedictory Service and Dinner, which provided more moments of reflection and enjoyment.
