Innovation Lab: Sparking creativity in young minds
Published on: 23 April 2025
The Preparatory School Innovation Lab is where all our boys learn creative problem-solving as they discover new technologies in a hands-on learning environment.
Technology has become a staple in education, providing students with a wealth of learning opportunities, and our boys learning is guided by Grant Haggerty, Leader of Innovation Technologies.
With the integration of devices like laptops, tablets, interactive whiteboards, all classrooms are now more connected and interactive than ever before. One of the most significant advantages with technology is the ability to personalise learning. Digital tools and resources allow teachers to tailor lessons to individual students’ needs, helping them progress at their own pace.
The Innovation Lab is a hub of creativity and engagement, where students dive into interactive activities like coding with LEGO SPIKE Prime robots, creating multimedia presentations, developing app prototypes, and designing products using 3D printers and laser cutters. These activities not only make learning exciting but also foster a deeper understanding of technology and design.
In the Innovation Lab collaboration is essential, with students often working together on projects to solve coding problems and sharing ideas on how solutions can be presented. Technology prepares students for the future workforce by developing essential skills such as critical thinking and digital literacy.
The flight simulator in the Innovation Lab has emerged as a powerful tool for immersive learning. It offers a rich and interactive environment where students can experiment with different flight scenarios and outcomes, in a safe controlled environment. Students can practice flying manoeuvres and also look at flight paths and weather.
Beyond fostering experimentation and learning, the Innovation Lab helps students build confidence in their problem-solving abilities. By testing various solutions and reflecting on the outcomes of their designs, students develop the skills needed to make informed and effective decisions in the real world.
