Old Boys Daniel Whitely and Diego Rebelo (2019) joined Year 12 VET students this week in a conversation about employment pathways after graduating. Daniel completed an ATAR course at school, then spent 7 months doing part time work at an IGA and in construction jobs. Working for a building company led to an apprenticeship in carpentry and took Daniel down a different path as he was unsure of his future after graduating. Diego completed a non-ATAR course and when he left through an alternative pathway was accepted into a Commerce degree at Notre Dame. He completed a year of the degree and then realised it wasn’t for him. He is now managing one of his father’s businesses. The message from the former students was to take your time, “It’s not until you leave school that you start to really work out who you are and what you’re really interested in”. As well as hearing from the Old Boys, our non-ATAR students experienced an RAC presentation on Drink, Drugs and Driving, a session on car maintenance, a day long Barista course and a day long RSA course.
