The holiday period for the School has been very busy, with maintenance throughout the campus, national and international tours and competitions. Thank you to everyone for their efforts, to the boys who were very well behaved and exceptional ambassadors for the School on the tours and well done to those who demonstrated excellence in their chosen sports and academic competitions.

This week I am delighted to announce the appointment of our new School Chaplain who will commence at Christ Church in 2018.

As the new term commences we bid farewell to Jamie Fagan, a teacher with more than 40 years of service. Over the years Jamie has touched thousands of lives and many families have benefited from his devotion to education. We wish Jamie all the best for his well-deserved retirement, and look forward to welcoming him back as a volunteer.

The Midnite Youth Theatre Company is preparing for the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat being played at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia between 3 to 5 August. I hope that many families will book in the coming days and enjoy the best of our Drama Department. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketek.

In the first week of August we celebrate NAIDOC week with our Indigenous Program being an integral component of our offering at Christ Church. Each year this week presents a special opportunity to highlight and reflect our commitment to the part we must play as we move towards reconciliation with Indigenous Australians. Our Indigenous Program Co-ordinator, Michael Ralph and our Indigenous boys are preparing a very special art exhibition for the entire community to enjoy and I hope you will join us on Wednesday 2 August to celebrate this significant week of the year.

During the holidays the School attended a Claremont Council meeting in an attempt to secure a crosswalk on Queenslea Drive for the safety of the entire community and importantly, the many students from Christ Church and MLC that cross in the morning and afternoon. The idea of a crosswalk has been discussed for many years, and I am delighted to announce that after this protracted period of time the councillors finally voted 8 to 2 in favour of a crosswalk. I extend my thanks to all who attended on the night in support of this safety initiative, in particular members of the Parents’ Association, Old Boys’ Association, Captain of School and staff members. I also thank the Town of Claremont councillors for working with us in a collaborative manner to secure this wonderful outcome.
