Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-Kindergarten at Christ Church Grammar School
Our Pre-Kindergarten classroom provides a structured, school-based environment designed to set our youngest learners on a pathway to success. Routine and structure play a vital role in helping young boys feel secure and confident, fostering a strong sense of identity and wellbeing. Each class is led by an experienced, Early Childhood-qualified teacher and assistant, maintaining a low student-to-staff ratio of 1:10 to ensure individualised care and support.
Boys participate in a range of specialist classes across the fortnightly timetable, including:
- Music
- Library
- Physical Education
- Mandarin
- Art
These experiences enrich the classroom program and support the development of fine and gross motor skills, expressive and receptive language, creativity, and adaptability. To ensure smooth transitions, our specialist teachers conduct lessons within the Pre-Kindergarten classroom. We are also fortunate to have an onsite speech and language pathologist and occupational therapist available to conduct observations and provide support when required.
An emphasis on self-help skills is central to our program. All boys must be toilet-trained prior to commencing, and our teachers work in partnership with families to support the development of independent toileting and personal hygiene routines.
Parents are invited to attend two information sessions in the year prior to their son’s commencement, delivered in collaboration with our partners at Ngala. Additionally, families with confirmed enrolments are required to attend a total of five Pre-Kindergarten Transition and/or Little Learners sessions in the 12 months leading up to entry, helping to ease the transition into the school environment.
For entry into Pre-Kindergarten, boys born on or before June 30 in a given year are able to start on or after their third birthday. Boys born on or after 1 July in a given year will commence in Term 1 of the subsequent year after he has turned 3 years old. Recognising that every child develops at their own pace, we offer flexible attendance options of three, four or five consecutive days per week. This consistency supports strong relationships with peers and teachers and fosters a deep sense of belonging to the Christ Church community.
