Christ Church’s riverside location provides the ideal setting for the School’s highly successful rowing program.
The rowing season runs during Terms 1 and 4. Boys train out of the School’s Boat Shed, located on the Queenslea Drive campus, with all regattas held at Champion Lakes in Armadale.
The annual Head of the River, where the First VIII competes for the Challenge Cup, is the final regatta of the year. Christ Church has won this trophy on eighteen occasions most notably in 1958 a year after joining the competition and eight times since 2002. The Hamer Cup is awarded to the overall champion school for the season.
Justin Forbes was appointed as the Teacher in Charge of Rowing in 2017 and is proud to facilitate the rowing journey for so many boys at Christ Church. He has been involved in the management of PSA rowing for 10 seasons and rowed for Christ Church in the 1st VIII for five years, going on to row for the University of Western Australia. Justin is also a teacher of Science at the School.
