At the end of last term, Christ Church welcomed Brad Marshall – widely known as The Unplugged Psychologist – for a series of impactful sessions focused on one of the more pressing issues facing young people today: the effects of technology on mental health and wellbeing.

A nationally recognised expert, Marshall led sessions for Years 5 to 8 students, exploring how digital devices, social media, and gaming affect daily life, attention, mood, and relationships. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own screen habits, identify signs of digital fatigue, and develop strategies to build healthier, more intentional relationships with technology. Through open discussion and real-world examples, Marshall offered practical tools for setting boundaries, managing distractions, and understanding the triggers behind excessive technology use.

Later that evening, members of the wider Christ Church community attended Marshall’s parent seminar, The Tech Diet for Your Child and Teen. Drawing on the latest psychological research and his extensive clinical experience, he shared accessible, real-world strategies for navigating technology use at home. Topics included setting age-appropriate screen time limits, fostering open conversations about social media, managing gaming habits, and understanding the rising risks around online gambling. Parents left the session with actionable advice and a better understanding of how to support their children in today’s digital landscape.

In an increasingly connected world, Christ Church remains committed to supporting student wellbeing — both online and offline — and to fostering ongoing conversations that empower families and students alike.
