This term, the Pre-Primary to Year 2 boys will be breaking, locking and popping their way through hip-hop classes, part of the Parents’ Association-funded Artist in Residence program.

Developed to provide boys with an opportunity to experience the dance strand of the arts, the classes also assist in further developing the boys’ body awareness and co-ordination.

In addition to teaching the PP to Year 2 boys their hip-hop moves, this term’s Artist in Residence, Sally Towner, also runs the co-curricular program Street Steps.

“It is a great opportunity for the boys to explore how their bodies can move,” said Letitia Miller, Pre-Primary Teacher.

“They have a great time bouncing around with their friends and really enjoy moving to the fun music.”

The Artist in Residence Program has funded a variety of projects this year, including activities during Access Asia Week in Term 1, NAIDOC Week in Term 2 and workshops with well-known artist Stormie Mills. A musical Artist in Residence will work with the boys later this term.

“The Artist in Residence program was created to expose the boys to a diverse range of external artistic talent,” said President of the Parents’ Association, Ms Susan Montanari.

The boys will perform their newly found hip-hop moves in Week 10 at the opening of the Week of the Arts.
